Raised in Virginia, just a block from the beach, Joyce was a woman of lively spirit and captivating charm.

It was these qualities that drew a young Lefty Driesell to her during her sophomore year of high school. Their bond was so strong that they eloped on 14 December 1951.

Moreover, Joyce’s life was an example of love, dedication, and the power of family.

He has made significant contributions to the world of basketball, following in the footsteps of his father, the renowned coach Lefty Driesell.

Chuck’s journey in basketball began as a player. He was a shooting guard for the University of Maryland from 1981 to 1985.

There he not only showcased his skills on the court but also excelled academically, earning Academic All-American honors and making the ACC Honor Roll three times.

After his college basketball career, Chuck served in the United States Navy for three years, attaining the rank of lieutenant.

This period of service instilled in him a discipline and strategic mindset that would prove invaluable in his subsequent coaching career.

In 1985, Lefty Driesell son began his coaching journey at the Naval Academy Preparatory School.

Chuck’s coaching career flourished as he took on head coaching positions at Marymount University, The Citadel, and currently at the Maret School in Washington, D.C.

At each of these institutions, Chuck has demonstrated a deep understanding of the game, strategic acumen, and an ability to inspire his players, much like his father.

His career spans over 30 years across Division I, Division III, and high school basketball.
